Structural

Residential - Commercial - Recreational

Residential, Commercial and Recreational Construction carry many of the same engineering principles adjusted to scale.

Ashby Consultants are specialists in the many different facets of construction.

These services include;

  • Timber Design
Often there will be parts of a structure that fall outside the scope of “non specific design codes”. Specific design can also be necessary when building in extreme wind zones.

Ashby Consultants provide specialist advice and design work to Architects and Architectural designers for Long Span Beams and Lintels or Tall Posts and other sub parts of the structure that they are designing.

  • Reinforced Masonry Design

Reinforced Masonry Design is a structural design alternative for a complete building or individual components such as a feature Panel of Honed Stack Bonded Reinforced Masonry, a Portal Frame or a garage door Lintel. Ashby Consultants would be pleased to discuss these options with you.

  •  Structural Steel Design
With residential and domestic construction Steel Design can be intergrated into the main structural system in Light Timber Framed Construction.

Ashby Consultants specialise in the design of Steel Beams, Columns, Wind Girts or Steel Bracing Portal Frames specifically for this application when the buildings wall bracing can't be achieved by conventional means.

  • Pole Platform Design

Building on steeper sections can be challenging and a Timber Pole Platform is an cost effective way of constructing the a dwelling up to floor level. Ashby Consultants can assist you with your geotechnical recommendations and design of Bearers, Poles, Foundations and Sub Floor Bracing for your project.

  • Reinforced Concrete Design
Reinforced Concrete Design can range from the basic Ground Beam used for bridging pipe work through to the more complex design of Water Tanks, Suspended Floors or Tilt Slab Construction.

Ashby Consultants have the expertise to advise and design the right solution for you.

  • Design of Footings on Soft Ground

There are many places around the Rodney and Kaipara Districts that have soft ground or are underlain by peat. The Ruawai flats, and Omaha flats are good examples of this. Ashby Consultants provide foundation designs for structures on soft or peaty ground including Driven Timber Pile or Floating Raft solutions specific to your circumstances.

  • Site Wind Speed Assessments
Living with a view is a pleasure afforded many people in Rodney however the trade off can be exposure to high winds, some sites having "Design Site Wind Speeds" in excess of 50 metres per second or 180km per hour. These winds have been known to cause substantial damage.
As the limit for most Non-Specific Design codes as in NZS3604 is 50m/s in such cases the wind speed needs to be determined by Specific Design and building in an extreme wind zone will probably mean that the dwelling wall framing and roof framing will require specific design.  A wind site speed assesment can identify site specific needs prior to beginning works.

  • Wall Bracing Design and Sub Floor Bracing Design

Walls and Floors need to be protected against wind and earthquake forces and Ashby Consultants can supply Design Calculations required by local Council for Wall Bracing and Sub Floor Bracing. These Bracing Calculations need to demonstrate a building has sufficient bracing capacity to resist the forces that can potentially act on it.

  •  Construction Observation and Producer Statements
Regularly a local Council will require that the designer certify certain aspects of their design by process of Construction Observation and issue of a Producer Statement.
This involves a visit to site during construction to check that the structure has been built according to the design and that the assumptions made in the design are correct.

Ashby Consultants provide Construction Observation and Producer Statements for our own design and for Design Engineers outside the Rodney area resulting in a cost saving for the client.
